Umm... Just gotten started on this game, and while i was walking around i notice the following: kkkkkk kkkkkk - 1 wins eeeeee eeeeee - 0 wins bbbbbb bbbbbb - 0 wins aaaaaa aaaaaa - 0 wins mmmmmm mmmmmm - 0 wins jjjjjj jjjjjj - 0 wins cccccc cccccc - 0 wins hhhhhh hhhhhh - 0 wins gggggg gggggg - 0 wins ffffff ffffff - 0 wins dddddd dddddd - 1 wins iiiiii iiiiii - 0 wins All in the same city And in another city i hear people talk about having over a dozen alts like it's the most natural thing in the world. So yeah... I can understand people wanting to level up a bit and i'm not pointing fingers at anyone either, but i just wanted to know if this is actually normal in this game? alt's like that, with no intention of character building are definitely frowned upon and i believe in the next version steps will be taken to reduce these kind of actions. For now, since this is a test site it's kinda okay...
a lot of people, including myself, have multiple accounts we're playing. this allows for trying different strategies and/or clans if you prefer but like i said the aaaa aaaa accounts are not done...

Post by Edvar al'Given on Dec 21, 2008 15:27:04 GMT -6
Every alt I made had thought go into them. They all have backgrounds and personalities. Edvar was born in the Two Rivers, halfway between Watch Hill and Teran Ferry. His mother was the daughter of the Lord of Baerlon, she was cast out for loving his father, who was a craftsman. His father died shortly after he was born of a wasting sickness. His mother was killed in an ambush on her way to patch things up with her father when Edvar was 18. This is when he learned he could channel. He then ran away to the borderlands where he was a merchants guard for 8 years before going to the Black Tower. Cairn was Sept Chief of the Black Water Nakai, and Bruan, the clan chiefs student. Bruan was considered the most knowledgeable in the ways of warfare among the aiel. When Rand told them they had followed the Way of the Leaf, he clawed marks in his face in grief and sorrow, but managed to recover and became a siswai'aman. At Dumai's Wells, he felt the Asha'man channeling. When he reailzed what he was, he went to Bruan, who told him he must go. Every had to serve the Car'a'carn in their own way. So Cairn went to serve the Car'a'carn at the Black Tower. Ruwin was the nephew of Ailron, King of Amadicia. The Whitecloaks forcibly recruited him at an early age, but when the Seanchan invaded, hem deserted, having never felt any sort of loyalty towards them. He would have gone to his uncle, but shortly after that Ailron was killed in a battle against the Seanchan, making him heir to the throne. He knew though, that the Whitecloaks would never let that happen after his desertion, so he went to a place they considered as bad as Shayol Ghul itself. He went to the Black Tower and had himself Tested for the ability. Now he too, is an Asha'man. So, basically, never have more than 3 or 4 alts. It helps too, if the each have an identity of their own.

same with my alts. except for the ones i use to check on a certain city since it takes a while to go from one side to another. i dont have a complete story like edvar for justin alseen except that he lived in the two rivers and after perrin came back he left with a few other boys to explore the world. then he ended up in the legion after he found out rand was teh dragon reborn and rose through the ranks to become the leader of the legion.

Oh well, might as well.
My character just a volunteer for the militia, captured during a Darkfriend raid. the Army of Light assaulted the camp she was being held in, and she joined up with them. A bit on the zealous side, but her heart's in the right place.

My old main character, Jenlyn MacConnor, has a background and a fairly distinct personality, but then, I have role played with her on our clan forum a fair bit. She is the only character that I have developed at all the way that Edvar has developed his, but my other alts have all served some sort of useful and benign purpose, like trying out different character classes (when we still had those), or playing in different clans (I've made lots of friends in this game that way), with one exception: when I got mad at another clan that I believed was using alts to gain a win advantage, and I did the same thing that other clown is doing with his little win farm, to the outrage and disdain of the game forum at the time. I don't have any alts in this version, but if Tim allows them in the final version, I will have at least one alt, so that I can play in Dragonmount, the website from which I found this game, and the White Tower, as that is Jenlyn's home, and its high time she returned to the game. Most of us used to have mules too, but with the clan vault, that is no longer necessary. Make an alt and join us in DIVAS, where you can get to know Madic Comadrin and Coel Hen, as they will be in Dragonmount with you in the real age, should you stick around and join that clan when this goes live.

If you keep them in the same clan, that tends to happen. I can give a couple of characters fairly equal attention, but they need to be in different clans, and it helps if they have different paths of development, too. Otherwise, they end up being little more than a gold-hiding mechanism for my main, and that's kinda lame. At least, that's my own experience, and my observation from watching and playing with other people's alts.
I guess there has to be a purpose for the alt beyond extra personal storage or the like. If you made the alt because you really want to see what using tainted bludgeons with heavy shields will be like, then you will probably play the alt a little more, and if the alt joins a clan that is active and chatty, you will get involved in their team chemistry and sense of humor, and all of a sudden, you spend twice as much time in the game because you have two characters now instead of one. You will probably always favor one, but you will definitely be playing two, and I hope that Tim allows that to continue. Most games don't, but I have always thought that that was one of the cool things about this game.

I agree that it was fun to have three characters. I always had Kalle al'Tear my main Character. She was the Shatayan of Malkier and with her I was able to be in the Malkier clan which I loved. I also had Nosiin Arayla in the Muttos clan which was a lot of fun because I could play out different things that I wouldn't have ever done with Kalle.. and then I also had Sira Didjet in the Black Tower. which allowed me to get to know another great group of people. My alts were for RP reasons, and social reasons.
