Now's about the time when I'd usually start talking about next version. Normally, I'd start dropping little hints, start making countdown posts, and try to get you all fired up about the new changes coming.
I know what you're thinking: "V10! Woo! Yay milestone! The promise of an end game! Light vs Shadow! Pick a side and take part in the Last Battle! Destroy or Save the world!"
Well... not so fast. V10 is getting pushed out. Probably early next year. Hopefully close (but not TOO close) to the launch of a certain book coming out around then...
And I know what you're thinking now: "But that's a long ways away! No way V9 is gonna stay active until then! The game with wither and die. BOO! Down with Tim! Down with the Creator!"
But don't panic. There's a method to my madness.
Instead of working on V10, I'm working on V9.5 (working title). Why 9.5? Well there's a lot of cleanup stuff that needs done, and I'd like to take care of it before adding a ton of new features. If you remember there was a lot of crap planned for V9 that didn't make it in (Overhaul of the businesses page, Net worth stuff, New Achievements, New Titles, some of the Estate bonuses, etc). There's also a few existing features that need some work (Clan Battles, Stat balancing, other various bugs and tweaks).
Add all that together really that's pretty close to a full version's work right there. Plus there's a pretty big behind-the-scenes change I want to make (changing how items are stored in the database to make them easier to access and hopefully help with faster page loads with less of a bandwidth hit). But it didn't feel right having my 10th version of the game be a cleanup version that doesn't add any new features I haven't previously talked about. Too anti climactic for such a milestone in my opinion.
So I'm squeezing in a half version (hence the ".5"; ".1" seemed to small sounding for what it is). Hopefully this will put the game on better starting ground when it gets to V10, and it will give me more time todo V10 planning (V9.5 planning is basically done already).
So here's my admittedly kinda ambitious plan:
V9.5 Test site Launch: Late July/Early August
V9.5 Official Launch: Early/Mid September
V10 Test site Launch: December
V10 Official Launch: Late January
I think the V9.5 schedule is workable. But if it slips, V10 will slip and that's the one I already think is ambitious. We'll see how it plays out. With luck I think we can pull it off, and if not, a little slip isn't THAT big a deal right? Wouldn't be the first time...
Go Team!
