Been getting a lot of messages about not being able to create characters for V8.2. Here's the situation:
What I believe to be going on is that people are following links to the site that take them to a page they should only get to if they are logged in, like the profile or world page. They still have cookies around from last version, so it tries to log in, but fails as the character info has changed. However, before it fails it's an entry into the IP log for your IP of a blank character. This tricks the database into thinking you already have a character made.
Here's what I'm going to do. On my lunch break today (~4 hours from now), I'm going to try to fix the bug that is creating the false IP entries and clear out the bad ones from the database. That should fix everyone's problems.
However, starting in about 11 hours, characters created will end up getting less total battles than the players who start between launch and then. If you don't think you'll be able to create a character in that window due to this bug, send me a message with the character details you want and I'll set it up for you with a temporary password (you can change it once you log in). Not going to set skills, professions, or clans for you, but at least you won't miss out on battles. I will probably move you to a wilderness area instead of leaving you sit in a town. Don't want to put too big a target on you.
