Quick thoughts. Perrin: Good to see some explaination of what's slowing Perrin down. Also glad to see Perrin's Army growing. Path is set for him to start accepting that he DOES have leadership skills and is a Lord now reguardless of what he thinks. Interest to see what the Maidens found behind them.
Also glad to see some timeline hints of how everything matches up. One month out of Malden, and Rand's infront of the lodge after the fire. Hopefully there scatter some more in there too, so we can figure out how things line up!
Galad: While some have found this kind of abrupt, as he was only just captured in the Prologue, I liked it and found it appropriate. We don't need another dramatic rescue or a long, drawn out captivity, or more proof that Galad if principled and will do what is right whatever the cost. We've had a enough those stories already in WoT, which I think is why everyone was expecting it again (though who REALLY wanted Perrin to plan ANOTHER rescue in a heavily guarded camp right after Faile got rescued?). Galad surrendering himself for the good of the Children was the important part, as it proved he's the right man to be LCC to the other Lord Captains, not just because he killed their last one, but because he has the leadership and the principles necessary.
Also remember that the LC's are military men, not politicians like the Aes Sedai in the Tower Egwene had to convince. They are used to looking at a situation, seeing what needs to happen, and acting accordingly. They wouldn't waste to much time. It doesn't take an idiot to see Asunawa was not right to lead the Children and that he was judging people as DFs without proof based on his personal feelings. He had to be removed and there was really no other way to do it.
Good news from this is that we are finally seeing some Whitecloaks living up to their standards!

first off - Did anyone else notice that Perrin asked for some Maidens to *ride* along the Jehannah road to cover the group's back? Handful of times now, weird word choices like this have caught my attention. Unlike the mildly "off" words (like Mat using "homicidal" in the 'sundowner' town in tGS), this one's just wrong, though. I was almost annoyed just by the little bit of Perrin/Faile dynamic in this chapter. I'm still not over how long the rescue was dragged out. Perrin's self-reflection is interesting, though, and I loved all of the blacksmith-flavored descriptions and phrases. (I have access to a working forge and hope to eventually spend some time playing there.) And - interesting twist - Mat's got the Band, Rand the Legion, 'bout time Perrin "officially" grew an army for himself... Glad to see Galad finally catch a break. Kinda known he was headed toward that position for a while, and doesn't bug me at all that it was "handled" swiftly. We're getting closer to the end, and there's still a LOT of things that need to happen... Most of all, though, Perrin's army and Galad's 'ascension' are both, to me, signs of a good trend - the good guys are all falling into place. Elayne, Egwene, Rand - everyone's getting through their personal journeys/issues/whatever, taking on their bigger rolls, and getting set for.... for the sh*t to really hit the fan, I guess :-)

Yep. Noticed that the first listen through and it's grated me since. At least when they come back he notes that they are indeed running on foot...

Nope, not too swift. Better this way, just like you said Tim. If only the drama with Faile could work out this way. Too much, too long. At first, I thought the thing behind them was the Whitecloaks, but they would have just said, not make him go look.
