I like the idea of limiting what can and can't be sold in certain cities. You could always make items that were considered unusual in a certain city cost more. For Instance, buying a Warder's Cloak in Emond's Field could cost 25-50 percent more than buying one in Tar Valon. Allows for the concept of there are traders and caravans but you still need to pay more for the transport of the goods.

Good compromise, Porthios...
I think there are just enough items, that doing that would make a difference, but not sabotage anyone's shop....
I'd vote for it.

The problem with doing it like that is it only takes a few clicks to get from Emond's Field to Tar Valon. So no one in their right mind would want to pay 50% more, unless they're trying to fill the town coffers.

Yes, but since clan pay comes directly out of the proceeds from the shop, I think people would be more than willing to do it.

Also keep in mind that the 25-50 percent is just a random number I pulled out of the air. I'm no coder but from what I've read it would appear that some sort of formula would have to be worked out based on distance from the "town of origin" to the "final destination". As my degree is in English I am not the one to figure out the formula.
The only other issue really would be that any Darkfriend items - IE Trolloc Blades or Myrrd. Armor would probably not be on any trade routes. Which then begs the question......Black Market anyone?

Exactly! Although you ought to be able to get 'em in Thakan'dar...

Agreed with the Thakan'dar but that should be the only place you pay face value.

Exactly. Also, I think there ought to be a way of blocking enemy Clan's members from buying anything in your shop if you control a town.

I was thinking of that too Hugh.. Until i remembered that it is only to leave the clan and then buy whatever you want.. The only way a thing like that can work if do so that only your clan can buy items there...

That was my original idea, actually. Perhaps we could just have a way of restricting what people outside the controlling Clan can buy....
