Everybody has a town of origin, where your "house" is located. If you log-out in any place other than your home, everything in your inventory would be deleted, although not your equipped items.
You can move your dwelling to a different location, but it would take time, and money to accomplish.
That would probably put paid to the "slipping off to Shayol Ghul to get myself a Dark blade" thing.

So what if my computer crashes when I'm in a different city? Or the power goes out. Real life calls, or I'm kidnapped...
That sounds a bit harsh.

It's just an idea......
We could make it so there is only a chance (albeit a LARGE chance) that you will be mugged or something if you pass out in a city not your own. We could also make it so if you're in a city that is controlled by an allied Clan you get free lodging....
And if you're in an enemy-controlled city, you're virtually guaranteed to be attacked.

If you're in an enemy-controlled city, you're already pretty much guaranteed to be attacked.

Yeah, but right now they can't take your stuff.

Wouldn't it be cool if you could have special Clan-specific items or Talismans to sell from your shop? Like the Malkieri could have a Talisman of Malkier, or something? Or The Golden Company could have a Bastards Talisman?

Well to answer you Secon.. i would say what you just said is a big excuse to bring back the traveling limit.. In the earliest versions you had 3 "points" of traveling. You could move three times, then you was stuck.. And then you got 1 traveling "point" when a new day(hour) came.
And also i dont completly understand what you mean with my proposal having no logic in it. I mean.. they dont really sell swords in the waste do they? They dont have myrddraal armours in the stock in emondsfield... They dont sell a warders cloak in Amador? Im just trying to be realistic inside of the world of RJ. And its making sense to me... And it made sense in the first versions of the game... So why not?

It depends on whether you envision a Free-trade model (which is what Secon is saying) or else a more parochial system, where everything in a shop would be made and used by the inhabitants...

Not at all, I want the freedom to move about as much as possible.
I just don't think anyone will be moving around much just to shop. So it's it's silly to try to make the shop system the primary motivator for moving around.
Yes, but divas weren't in control over emond's field either in the books. And they don't sell Warders cloaks at all, or myrdraal armor.

True, true.
But well.. I dont have any other motivation to move around then finding people to fight.. Thats my only motivation to move around.. And that means mostly moving from Caemelyn to Emondsfield.. back and forth...

Yeah, there isn't really a point to moving around yet. But there are some suggestions floating around the forums that might help with that. Though we'll probably not see that in version 1.
But the shop system just isn't going to do much about that. At least not the shopping part of the shop system. So designing it as an attempt to get people to move around is just missing the point a bit.

Yes, but divas weren't in control over emond's field either in the books. And they don't sell Warders cloaks at all, or myrdraal armor. You missed the most important part of book 11? Where Divas noticed that Perry and Faile were gone from the Two Rivers, and selflessly took it upon themselves to protect Emond's Field? There were 3 chapters on it! I don't see how the certainty of getting mugged when in enemy-controlled land would make me want to go there, ever! And after all, what's the point of owning a town if you can't beat up your enemies there?

Shhh! I've not read book 11 yet!
But the ability to sabotage their shop would probably make you want to go there...

hehe, yes, it would! And then I'd happily spend the time needed to beat them in wins!
