So the Last Battle is just around the corner (starts 2/16 at noon CST). I'm excited to see how things shake out this time, but there is one issue I feel needs to be clarified before the battle starts. Particularly before Phase 4 of the battle.
As was pointed out during one of the recent clan battles, if you can get a character you control on to the opposite side of the battle you can weaken them to the point that significantly lower level players can beat them for large point gains. While this can be seen as a valid strategy if your opponent is willing to leave their clan open for you, it's a still kinda cheap and I see it as a flaw in the clan battle system. It's not how I intended Clan Battles to work and I plan to address it for next round.
However, the last phase of the Last Battle is essentially a massive clan battle where all players are automatically placed on a side based on their alignment. Therefore, a player who mainly battles for one side (Light or Shadow) could get one of their character's alignment to be on the other side, strip them down (or just let them keep highly damaged gear on), and tell their allies to beat them for massive points. Unlike clan battles, there is no defense for this. You can't kick the player out off your side. You're just stuck with them.
Therefore, I am making this decree:
Intentionally weakening one of your characters (or intentionally leaving them vulnerable) and encouraging members on your side to attack them for points is outlawed during the Last Battle.
Now, this is admittedly a tough thing for me to watch for and a tough accusation to prove if you try to be sneaky about it. If you have characters on both sides, I'm not going to jump on your case if you're not constantly online keeping both up to date. It's a grey area. But just don't do it intentionally. If I catch anyone doing so (and I'll use my judgement to decide if it's breaking this 'rule'), you will be punished and possibly so will the side that you're on. Just fight honestly and we won't have to worry about it.
I'm really excited that the sides for the Last Battle are fairly balanced this age. Last age's battle was pretty lame as the Shadow was extremely out matched. So I see this as the first REAL test of how the Last Battle is set up. I'm sure there's still some tweaks that need made to things, but if the points are skewed because of someone inflating their sides score with this tactic it will be hard to judge how things really stand and what changes need made. I already know there's some changes that need made about the points calculations for clan battles (and therefore the Last Battle too) when some characters have been severely weakened. I don't need more info on that.
And before I get the response that Shadow players are supposed to be underhanded, my response is this: There's a difference between playing an honest character and being an honest player. Let's keep the game enjoyable for all and not ruin what should be an epic battle by letting it devolve into which side can hammer their designated pincushion more. Fight the fight and see who comes out on top. If the Last Battle system itself is biased towards one side over the other, I need to see it so I can know what needs fixed for next round.
Thanks in advanced for going along with this. Hopefully we can all behave civilly here.
Go Team!
