Why shouldn't Speed work like Stun then?
Except the FIRST round, when Speed's FULL value must be considered to determine the players initail Speed, for the rest of the battle Speed is RANDOMIZED between 0 and its full value.
This way, Speed would still be less subject to randomization than Stun is (because of its initial value), but it wouldn't always be counted at its full.

but wound counters this by affecting the speed throughout the dual. while it is random, it sticks or gets higher. stun works randomly too but each round and doesnt stay. combined, they can and should (if people actually used enough) counter speed, just not the first round so the people are vunarable to one or two hit kills

Well in that case I suppose you'd just have to make Stun and Wound slightly cheaper than Speed perhaps. (thanks for calling back wound's working, we really should fill that Wiki in) Hey Tim, what about the timing of V7? Usually Christmas holidays boost your work don't they? And what about your "secret improvement"? You haven't given any more hint... I thought maybe it could be the alts control?

I think for now I'll see if raising the rate of health gain as players level cuts back on the 1-2 hit kills and see if that is enough balance for speed. If that's doesn't handle it, then I'll look at either semi-randomizing speed or making Wound and Stun cheaper.
As for V7's timing, let's just say not as soon as I'd like. While I always THINK having 2 weeks off around Xmas will give me more time to work, between family get togethers and anniversary plans, it hasn't panned out that way the last 2 years. I'd LOVE to be able to get the test site open to donors by XMAS, but really there are so many things changing (and still need changed...) that it's pretty ambitious. If things go really smoothly, then expect a nice Xmas present, but I wouldn't get your hopes up TOO much.
As usual, my plans for this version have snowballed. Partially due to this thread, and partially because I didn't fully appreciate the impact of my changes. My hope is to get all the items/stat changes mostly done before opening the test site (as those would be a pain to change while ppl are playing around), and then work on clan/other changes while the others are being tested. Hopefully a full release can happen late January/early February, but even that seems ambitious at this point. We'll see how smoothly things move in the next few weeks...
Though if the test site will be opening in the next month or so, I probably should start thinking about starting my countdown posts...

As far away as it is, February actually sounds good - I've got a major work project that's going to eat me alive in January...

side note: I realize this is likely just laziness on my part, but how about an "all" checkbox or something for businesses like herbs/farms/etc - where you can sell all or plant all at once. Or maybe checkboxes on the plots - check the plots, choose the crop and plant *bam*. A few towns x full garden plots = LOTS of clicking...

does anyone remember the discussion here about a cap on skills would be like level 15 (since no one even gets close to that) a few weeks ago? well how bout there is a reward for mastering a skill (any skill)? like the last skill is a suped up version of that skill that almost no one else would have? and maybe have special effects like darkfriends get more taint when in an area with other darkfriends, but only if they maxed out a skill. stuff like that
it would give a reason to actually focus on two or three skills instead of everyone becoming a jack of all trades
