There will be some new kinds of items in V4 which I will refer to as consumables. These are one use items that give a small, limited benefit. There are 3 types of consumable items:
Each item type has a different effect. Food recovers stamina, herbs give a very small stat boost for a limited number of battles, and drinks give a slightly bigger temporary stat boost than herbs, but they also add other negative stat effects. Players will only be have 2 active effects from herbs/drinks in their system at once to prevent abuse (besides, your stomach can only hold so much ). A small (and different) selection of each of these items will be available for purchase in all towns.
The purpose of these items is to allow greater and easier customization of your character for when the need arises. Can't beat a character because their too fast? Use an herb that ups your speed! Tired of waiting for your stamina to return? Eat some food to regain your strength! Need a big boost to a stat? Take a drink and deal with the negative effects! Also, it will give you guys something to spend your extra money on and help make NPC's easier to handle (I'm working on making them actually challenging!).
Now I know some of you are probably thinking "Oh great! More crap to take up space in my inventory!" Well not quite. Consumable items will be held in a new, separate, and smaller inventory only for consumable items. Think of it as your belt pouch. This inventory will be upgraded in a similar way to your current inventory.
Over the next few days, we'll take a closer look at each of the kinds of consumables, as well as where you can purchase them. Let's just say the towns are gonna get a little bit bigger...
- Food
- Herbs
- Drink
