Let's start this off with a bang!
Probably the biggest thing coming in V4 (at least in my opinion) is quests. Now, before you get all excited, I will note that the quest system for V4 will be pretty simple. I have TONS of ideas for ways the quest system can be used to make other improvements to the game (will mention a few of those below), but for V4 I decided to focus my efforts getting the basic system setup right from the start.
Quests will be available in each town, with different quests in each town (though the system is set up to allow for the same quest being available in multiple towns). Some quests may have certain requirements that must be met before the quest can even be accepted (ie. certain level, certain class, completed a certain other quest). Once a quest is accepted, you must complete the objective of the quest.
After the quest is complete, you can submit the quest and receive your reward. Rewards will either an item or gold, depending on the quest. At this point (V4), there will be no experience gained from completing quests. However, completing some quests may provide a slight bump to your clans score in that town.
Players will be able to accept 3-5 quests at a time (haven't decided for sure yet, will have to see how things work in practice). Some quests will be available only for a limited time and the offer will expire after a certain point. Other quests will only give rewards to a limited number of people (first come, first serve in this case). If for either of these reasons the quest 'expires' before you complete and submit the quest, all your efforts on the quest will be lost.
There are four general types of quests, and two ways quests are generated, both of which I will be talking more about in the next few days.
