Graphical- Like what we have now. Town map displayed. Click on places to bring up new interface (ie. click on the bank and the bank options pop up)
Text-based- Like it was in the first couple releases. Buttons linking to actions (ie. click on the market button and you're taken to the market page)

Graphical. 3 reasons: 1.It makes things more real. 2.It makes for less clutter in the normal interface (character stuff) 3.I like pretty pictures.

lol i agree with Hugh, especially on the pretty pictures part!
That said, i am not averse to the text-based interface of old. But i think graphical is a lot more attractive to newbies. GoS is quite dark (the black background etc) and it's nice to have that little block of colour every now and again.

Honestly I would say go text based until we could get different pictures for the reason that it does not seem too realistic to me. I mean Tar Valon which is suppose to be one of the grandest cities looks like a small farming village xD

I agree with Rarc in that view... However the reason for the cities looking poor could be put down to it being just after the Breaking...

Hmmm, I hadn't thought of that. Perhaps we could make the user interface more of a map, than a flyover view? Say, just have a basic shape, with icons on it representing the different locations in the town? We might even be able to use the maps from the books...

The maps from the book would be cool, but the problem there is there aren't enough maps for all the cities... There are many cities on the main map but only a handful have been visited and not all of them have been mapped out unfortunately...

That is indeed a good point, Rarc. And with the desire to switch to the more Rand Era names, things being post breaking won't work to explain the poor condition of the major cities.
I could play around with the map editing program, adding new images to represent the more major cities, but admittedly graphics aren't my thing and that would require extensive work. Even then, I doubt I could do Tar Valon justice without making the map unreasonably large and detailed. I don't think using maps from the books would be a good idea due to the fact that we don't have maps for all the cities, including some major ones.
I do also agree though that Graphic do make the game feel better. Text would be way easier to do though. I'm still up in the air on this one.

The game i fell in love with was the text based one so it's got my vote... Also most games i've played are text based and do very well. For example WoE or LotGD... Both have quite a number of players... There is a game but i forget the name that has a map style and text style to it... It's a good enough game too but it wouldn't be as detailed as you'd need it... It's a very popular game i just can't think of the name at all...

Well there could be a compromise for the moment, or a way to keep some visuals at the least. Perhaps keep it mainly text based, but perhaps keep the right hand map to show you where the towns are and perhaps replace the town map for the moment with simply a picture of the town? It would require someone with drawing skill to do the towns justice, but it would be alot easier to have a still picture than the map and it would give time to work on the other map scheme while still giving us, to quote Hugh "Pretty pictures."

Could u do a button that would change it between text and graphic based? so you can chose what you want and then everyone is happy?

Not that the question was directed to me, but I believe that would take a good bit of coding. It would be much easier on Tim (and other staff) if we just decided on one, but that is simply my take on it.

Had an idea: How about if we have a simple graphic/drawing, as Eisberg suggested. It would be a simple drawing (say a b/w picture of the White Tower for Tar Valon, A Lion for Caemlyn, etc.) with the title of the location printed below. It wouldn't be as pretty, but I think something needs to be there so we know where we are. It could change to the current traveling graphic between locations, and we could have a stock graphic for hills, mountains, forest, & etc. I don't think anybody wants to get rid of the world map - and there isn't any rationale for doing so. Other than those two things, we could return it to being text-based. At least temporarily.
I really hope we can have a graphic interface at some point, though.

That might be a good temporary solution, Hugh. Simple enough and would allow for a similar interface to be maintained. Basically I would replace the current town display (all the building and trees and such) with an image and some buttons to go to the different places in town. It actually gives me some ideas for simplifying some other things...
