I see the Aiel as being dodgy, not just fast.

LOL. I had this same problem. If I make Aiel exactly like they are in the books, then they'd be too kick ass and no one could take them (sorta like channelers). Horray for balancing!

well make them have like good dogde and speed but give them less defence because they dont wear armor. take away enough so they wont win everytime and to match their perks.

oh and for channelers just make them weaker, slower, ect to match strong weave.

When I think of speed relating to the books it makes me think of the band of the red hand. Mat has that saying that's something like, the key to victory is surprise, the key to surprise is speed and the band can move faster than anyone else.

This is way too utopian and I've suggested before.
Why not assign the class randomly and be like the real (fantasy) world. You don't have 40% channelers in most fantasy. Make the Aeil class kick ass, but make them really vulnerable to something or only allow them to use a couple basic weapons.
I also understand the arguments, but I think it would be fun even if I get stuck being a over weight bald inn keeper.

random /= balanced
i want it to be someting simple, but has a lot of variety and depth... if Tim does it right there won't be a ton of channelers running around because other options will also be viable

No to random classes. While it would be interesting and add more 'realism' to the game, I'd rather have people thrive on the choices they make rather than purely the luck of the draw. Perhaps I'll add the option to be a random class, just for you Brin.

I knew that you wouldn't go random, I just think it would be interesting in a world full of warriors, once in a while a mutant shows up. Maybe for your x-men game.
You could add a random factor to it by giving a power multiplier .99 to 1.1.
I just think that it shouldn't be so automatic. I win almost all of my battles against lower level peeps and loose most of them to upper level. A little randomness (you could make it very by day) would add to the game.
But hey I'm a statistics nut and we thrive in the uncertainty of randomness.
I think a greyman and Drakar class could be interesting.
How about a Mordieth class?
A Whitecloak Class?
Hero of the Horn Class?

ok. i know i put more than my fair share on here but by nirb's example why not companions(in illian)? younglings? but i would also like a way for channeler to be able to pick a warder which gives them bonuses, and of course some weakness balance, balance, balance! like take extra damage since there aes sedai does get attacked?

Would it be possible to restrict classes to certain equipment? Then Aiel could get some sort of bonus when using spears, but not be allowed to equip swords at all (they can have them in inventory in case one is dropped after a battle, just not use them).

That's what we did before, more or less. I mean, warriors could use bows, but they wouldn't get any bonuses to them. I like how it is now though, where I can choose any weapon and change at each new level if I'd like. It'll probably end up being a weapon-restriction, though. That seems to be the simplest way to make it work.

I plan on having some restrictions based on the books (no swords for Aiel, only certain classes can use weaves), but nothing too major. Also depending on what skills you have, it might be advantagous for you to use a certain weapon type, but you certainly won't be limited to only using that one type.

are we going to get a full description of the skills/classes and stuff before you implement it so those of us that want to plan out what to use, can
