Since the shop merchandise doesn't randomly rotate like it used to, is there any point to the 30-second delay between purchases now?

When I first joined lol. We would stay up late just refreshing the screen waiting for it to change over so we could snatch any rare items that came up. Then we would hoard them or sell them for massive amounts of gold. It was fun, but I think I like this system better.

And when it didn't change, and all the items were crappy ones you didn't want, you were sitting there debating with yourself if you should risk buying a cheap item so it'd be replaced by something you hopefully wanted or not. Because if you did, you had to wait those 30 seconds before you could get that item, and if it was good, likely someone else got it! Especially the talis... But I seem to recall there not being a 30 second delay, too, before that. Hmm, maybe I've played this game for too long!

Yes, in Craig's random shop (still accessible on the old site and usable even though there's no link to it at gostones.net/gos/shop.php for anyone curious).
The reason there's no talismen selling here is that using some talismen on items can greatly effect the price of items. The amount it changes varies greatly from item to item (a good chunk change value based on percentages of the item), so there's no fair price to set on talismen.
EX. (these numbers I'm just pulling out of the air and aren't right at all). Say I an Aiel talismen on some Rags. This raise their points cost by 1-2, and therefore barely affects the price. But if I use the same talisman on a Heron Mark Blade, it would likely change the points by 30-40. Plus the more points an item is worth, the faster the price goes up per point, so while it may just add a few copper to the price of the rags, it could add a few gold to the price of the HMB.
That's why I don't give the shops talismen. Unless I'd set their price so high that you'd be dumb to by them, there's a good chance people would find a way to combine talismen and items they can buy and actually sell them for a profit, creating infinite money for anyone patient enough to do it.

What? Profiteering from tali'ing items? Who'd do something like that? ;D Oh, how I remember the suffering of hitting the shop incessantly hoping for that dang Heron-Mark Blade to appear, or those precious rare high-end talis - and to watch someone snatch it during the 30-sec wait. GAH! Spikes the blood pressure just thinking about it! Here's another random thought - find some way to have talis available in Tar Valon or involving channelers in some way - Power-made weaponry of a sort? I can't even begin to imagine the mechanics of how to do it, but it would be nice to have some way of getting talis other than NPC drops... *edit* actually, this idea mutated a little bit, so I posted the new version in "Suggestions." ROFL - I said "d_a_m_n" Heron-Mark, and the board edits it to "dang" - nice!

Well I used to run my alt on explorer and buy a crappy tali, then switch to my main char and buy what came up in its place. But enough talking about that version, I still can't understand why we were so addicted since it really had some huge bugs
