As the Creator, I try my best to follow the "I WILL TAKE NO PART" attitude when it comes to player interactions. This has been especially true lately... But occasionally, thing reach a point where intervention is needed. My goal of this post is to hopefully explain what actions were taken and why I felt they were needed.
SiuanSong contacted me about an issue she felt was she was not able to objectively handle as moderator. It's no secret Cain and some of the moderators on Discord have had issues in the past. I've mainly tried to stay out of it. But what got me involved is the a pair of out of character threats made by Cain against 2 other players. One of these threats was recent, the other was made back in March. This is something that I just can't allow to be tolerated.
I was given chat logs of the two incidents to review. I approached Cain and gave him the opportunity to explain his side of the story, but was unsatisfied with his response to my inquiry. I weighed the situation and ultimately made the decision I thought was best for the game.
Effective immediately, Cain's accounts on both the game and this forum have been suspended indefinitely. This was not a decision I came to lightly and know there will be those of you who feel this response is overly harsh. However, personal threats against other players made out of character is something NOT something I can ignore. That level of toxicity is not good for anyone and is not an environment I want for this game. While Cain has been a pillar of this community for a LONG time, but that does NOT mean I can turn the other check and ignore this type of behavior. If I make exceptions for veterans, that signals that type of thing acceptable here and it's not.
As a reminder, this is the 1st rule of the site, as explained on the wiki:
Cain's characters will remain locked but in game. I will be in touch with the sub-leaders of his clan to determine what the plan for Black Tower leadership will be. These decisions will be made by the Black Tower members themselves and I will simply be helping facilitate the transition during these extraordinary circumstances. I am also reaching out to Cain to explain the decision and my reasoning.
If anyone has wants to discuss this decision with me, you're welcome to approach me in private (preferably on the forum or on discord). However I am locking this thread and ask you all to not let discussion of this individual issue overwhelm and detract from the game itself. The game, the setting, and gameplay should be the heart of this community. I do not want to see this devolve into a civil war about this decision. Ultimately it's my game, my call, and my responsibility.
I apologize to all of you that will be impacted by this decision, but I hope you understand and will continue to enjoy and support the game.
Thank you. Go Team!

As a reminder, this is the 1st rule of the site, as explained on the wiki:
Rule 1. I will act considerately towards all players.
- No foul language (if it's questionable whether you should use it, just don't)
- No sexually explicit images or language. A little innuendo is acceptable.
- No spamming chat or messages. Try to keep all in game public chat mostly game related. Deviating into Real Life topics a little is acceptable, but just remember that chat isn't your personal chat room. You can talk about what you want to in personal messages and we do have a Facebook group if you want to get to know more about each other outside of GoS.
- In character taunts are allowed, but don't let attacks get personal. This is just a game and the characters people play as don't necessarily reflect a person's personality in Real Life. The game should be welcoming to all. If you don't like someone, at least be civil.
- No hacking, use of automation software or macros, or other means of trying to give yourself an unfair advantage over other players who play the game as it was intended.
