(Sorry this is late again. Over slept this morning and barely made it to work on time for a meeting. Didn't have time to throw this up before I left. Put up a different topic than I intended, as I think some of you may be excited about this one...)
So I've been playing around on V1 and V2 lately, and it's made me nostalgic. In the early versions, before NPCs came about and maybe even for a few versions afterward, defense logs were on their own page. They were much simpler back then (Player X attacked. You win/lose. Y gold was taken). Eventually though, dueling kinda became less important and it kinda seemed like wasted real estate to have the link at the top of the page, so I combined it with Messages.
Now however, dueling is starting to happen more again and then's no good indicator if you've been hit. So I've decided that the "Battle Logs" link is making a comeback! Defense Logs will be moved from the Messages tab to their own page, with their own link that will light up whenever you have a new Defense Log.
That's nice and all, but nostalga wasn't my only reason for giving them their own page again.
As part of the message system changes, I'll be integrating the defense logs into the new database as well as a new kind of message. Similar stats will still be displayed to when you look at the logs, but I'm hoping it might be a little bit cleaner and hopefully more accurate. By doing so, I can easily not just find logs for battles that you defended in, but also for battles that you started! So the Battle Logs page will also have a tab for your most recent Offensive battles.
The logs will store your most recent 30 battles of each type by default. However, no battles less than 24 hours old will be deleted, regardless of how many battles you have had. So if you've been hit 200 times in the last 24 hours, you'll have 200 defense logs to look through if you want. After they become 24 hours old, they will automatically clean themselves up, so don't worry about having to manually delete that many logs.
But wait! There's more!
As part of how I'm storing the logs in the new database I have one more goal. Each log will have a "Replay" link next to it (similar to Reply for Messages). Clicking on this link will take you to a page that will look similar to the Duel page in that it will replay the results of that battle. That way if you are really interested in seeing the turn by turn breakdown of what happened, you can. I'm hoping (haven't coded it yet) that this replay will even include things like points earned for clan battles and tournaments, so you can see just how many points the enemy is earning off you. These logs will only be available to the person that attacked and the person that defended, so don't worry that your other clan members will see just how badly you do at dueling.
Enjoy!
