So, I'm a little disappointed. I don't think BS is keeping a firm grip on RJ's world anymore. For example, I read chapter 8, then chapter 9 when I got home from work. And the part where the gholam rips Mat's face off was a little disturbing. I was ok with it though, cause someone's gotta go sometime, but then it started getting weird. I don't remember everything, but the gholam picked up Mat's face, and started dancing, then turned into Michael Jackson and started singing 'Weird' Al's parody of Beat It. I feel it became borderline inappropriate though, when Olver jumped on Gholam Jackson's back and yelled, "I'm Rick James... Yeah, perhaps I should get some sleep, then maybe reread that chapter. I wonder what more would have happened in that dream if the 'thud' of my brand new, signed and numbered book, hitting the floor hadn't awakened me.  I cannot believe I fell asleep, (and dropped my book) during such an exciting scene. I only got 1 page into that chapter. And, sadly, that page is now bent.  |

Prologue - so much better reading than audiobook (FYI - the line about Aiel "riding" is corrected in the book to "scouting," but there's a lingo mistake in Perrin's forge dream that I just noticed).
Randy Appleseed is a win. Rand vs Egwene - win. Mat - biggest LOL so far: "Are you going to swear at [Elayne] too?" "Of course I am. How else is she going to trust that [the letter's] really from me?"
Two annoyances? issues? scream-inducing points of interest? from chapter 10 - first off, the whole Galad/Perrin showdown looming - the tension build is great, all I can think is GET ON WITH IT ALREADY!!! :-) second - Grady mentions taint's disappearance from saidin as "a few weeks back" - holy crap, we're still only a few weeks out from events in book NINE?!?!? FOUR books ago?!?! TEN BLOODY YEARS AGO?!?!? AAAARRRRRGH!!! meaning, I really hope this book starts pulling the various story threads back together into concurrent time before my head explodes trying to piece everything back together...
So many awesome points in the story thus far, though, but I think I've gotta give top honors to the little intro passage before the map from an old pal we haven't heard much about lately. That little paragraph just blew me away. :-)

I don't know. Your first read through sounded pretty entertaining... ;D
Don't feel too bad. I kept nodding off with about 70 pages left to go in the book. Definitely not due to lack of action on the book's part. 3 days of little sleep was catching up to me and I made the mistake or laying in bed reading. Should have sat on a block of ice or something instead...
