Well, I don't think i could make any game like this at this point in time, but i started in high school with a general coding class, then i took a "Video games development" class which was more random coding and "studying online video games" each week. I took another 2 courses in college about coding. I think if i really wanted to, i could start with a small small game and work my way up. I wouldn't be able to do any of the awesome stuff Tim does, but i think i could get there. That and i dont have the time, my girlfriend would kill me

My story's pretty similar to eisberg's actually. Took a basic programming class in High School (it was really kinda crappy though, but fun). That got me hooked on programming. Went to college and Majored in Computer Science with a Minor in Math (at the school I went to it was like 2 extra classes for the Minor, which I took as some of my electives). Took a bunch of random programming classes, plus History of Video Games (first time our school offered it) and Video Game Development (started the next semester after the History of Video Games class proved popular). Of course the Video Game Development class didn't really help prepare me for GoS, as it primarily focused on writing games that work on the Game Boy Advanced (or it's emulators which we used).
GoS is primarily written in php and Javascript, stuff I got really familiar with at one of my internships (I actually didn't care for it at the time because most of what they had me doing was adjusting the layouts of pages and they were anal about IE and Firefox looking identical (to the pixel!), something anyone that has actually worked with html can tell you is a real pain in ass. That was a few years ago though and time heals all wounds.
And eisberg, I totally know what you're talking about with regards to time and the gf. If I hadn't already married my wife before I started this I doubt I'd be able to get away with it. ;D I actually end up doing most of my coding late at night after she's gone to bed (she's a morning person and I am definately a night owl).
