I had heard that part of the ranger's lvl 40 skill is that all melee damage counts as ranged. How does this work exactly ?
For example , I have a knife that does :
20 + 30% melee 50 + 30% ranged
how would this be figured ? are they all just added to make it 70 + 60% ?

if thats the case, then lvl 40 archers would be unbeatable, for example a lonely talisman of madmen could give them close to 200% damage bonus... a berserkers would give 60% damage bonus, and so on... I think that should add the base damage, but not the %....

ger's correct (I had to look it up. Wasn't exactly sure how this was handled.) Before your attack goes through and damage is assigned, your melee damage is added to your ranged and set then melee is set to 0. melee % does NOT get added on. Looking into this and how it is done, I may need to make undo some database changes I made (was gonna remove something, but can't remember if I did or not). I hope I'm wrong, but level 40 skills might be slightly broken right now. If they are, I'll try to get it fixed tonight. That way all will be well before anyone actually hits there. Hopefully...

Oooh, if they were broken, and you fix it, will you please tell us how they were broken afterwards? I'm very curious...

All is and was well. There was a field in the database that's only purpose is to track and handle the level 40 skill benefits (melee as ranged or equip in either hand). I didn't know what it was for, and noticed that it never got used (except in the skill setting and once in the duel script and equipment script as I know now), so on the new test site I set up (haven't done much there yet admittedly) I removed it from the database. May have to add it back in, but I think I'll do it in a different way.

so will we only have one skill at lvl 40 and further? I mean else melee people would drop the second sword each time you doesn't use that skill

Skills are still the same as Craig's version. Level 40 skills will just give you one option, and then no more skills (I believe how that still works, didn't play the last round or two of Craig's much).

Hopefully... so being an archer, the melee % doesn't count... does that mean that an archer should put ranged tali's on a stiletto or ruby to get the maximum amount of damage or the melee tali's are also converted to ranged? Can anyone shed a light on this??? (tim, hint hint

you should put ranged talis to an stilleto or ruby dagger, if you put a melee tali wont work well, unless it adds base damage of course... So, you could use a Deadly stilletto to full effect, but if you use a brutal stilletto the 25% damage bonus wont count, only the +7-8 base damage part (And if you use a PW Stilletto it will get both bonuses to damage, the ranged and the melee parts)

What ger said. Really, having that level 40 ranged skill is the only way that spears are actually worth it right now...

well spears might be except for the fact the Silver bow has 15% critical and 7% agility ..... not much of a trade off for maybe another 10 base damage from a spear

Silver Bow Bow worth 288,690 g :: lvl req. 46 80-86 ranged dmg +15% critical +7% agility
Black Lance Spear worth 57,667 g :: lvl req. 46 42-45 melee dmg 43-47 ranged dmg 12% dmg to self +13 taint dmg
Warriors Bow Bow worth 314,316 g :: lvl req. 54 87-93 ranged dmg +12% critical
Combat Spear Spear worth 73,138 g :: lvl req. 54 42-46 melee dmg 44-46 ranged dmg +4% melee dmg +6% ranged dmg
not even 10 more base damage Ger. Black Lance has 5 more base damage, and combat spear has even less than warriors bow
swords have agility bows have critical bludgeons have block axes have damage and damage to self, stun spears have nothing. (combat spear has +6% ranged and +4% melee, but that's hardly anything at all. black lance has too little taint to be worth using. trident has nothing)
examples: crushing force poison taint stun defense unblockable health gain exp gain gold steal a.s.o. or maybe just more damage!
below lvl 40, spears should certainly have Much more damage. since 50% is ranged and 50% melee, each part will have a part blocked by the enemy. which means with spears below lvl 40, you will always do considerably less damage than a weapon focused on ranged or melee. maybe it should be as much as 15% more base damage

Well, adding a PW to a spear lets you take advantage of both kinds of added base damage, so that's where you get the extra base from, but I agree, compared to the pretty adds on the other kinds of items, it's not really worth the trade-off... With a touch of critical or agility or something added to the base items, the spears could be really, really nice for ranged chars after lvl 40, though!

Don't worry. All weapons are being reworked for v2 (that's actually what I'm in the process of now, which made me think of how crappy spears currently are). The whole system will be distinctly different from now, so hopefully there will be less issues. Hopefully more balanced too. And I don't mean "If I go this route, I'm super powerful! And if I go this other route, I'm super powerful in another way!" Less superpowered people (still strong, but hopefully other at the same level will have a chance at beating them at least.
