Setting the record straight on timelines, usefulness and all things poisony.
V10 - Considering I started this age a bit after the LB started, and finally found TAR with the test site posted, I can't comment on the builds used in this age at all.
V11 - Rasina Seitaarin was born, which ended up being my first chop at a melee dueller. There was no poisoner build in this age, at least not one in the page 1 characters, thus not one that could be considered as a primary competitive character. If there were any 'test' characters using it, I don't know. Towards the end of the age I started experimenting with adding poison to the build, with somewhat promising but mixed results, and the rough idea of a much more poison based build started to take shape. During this age, I received hate mail on more than one occasion from people telling me that I was basically an ass for abusing the combination of advanced classes that I did in order to gain 'cheap' wins, so having already vaguely come up with the concept of a very different build, I decided OK, we'll give that a go instead then, seeing as how what I've done this age was somehow considered 'cheap' tactics. There was alot of positive comments as well I should say, it certainly wasn't all negative.
Stats: 81% duel wins (1857 total wins), 85% offensive wins (1622 total offensive wins)
V12 - Reyan Kulthar was born. First go at a real poison dealing build using defense rather than melee offense. This was also obviously my first age using Tinkers TA. I had also decided that people didn't like being duelled so much in this game apparently, or something, so I'd ease off a little, maybe that would be OK. This was a bit more difficult this age, folks had somewhat stepped up their game with regards to duelling, and a couple of the Forsaken (of that age, different to now) had decided to abuse the crap out of low level taint builds for massive early wins, so stats were a little skewed there ... After about level 30-40 or so those builds of course started failing as they do, and then the (real) whining started and my inbox again started filling with hatemail as my own plans started to take shape. by 60-70 odd, when Tinkers started appearing yeah the remainder of those that had stuck around were a complete non-factor in the duelling scene. Didn't help I guess that I was still of course running a melee dueller (though very, very different classes this age) that was also having very good success rates. During this age, if I recall, Tim also made his first pure poisoner, whether in order to test my build from a dev pov, or an idea come independently, I can only speculate. I don't recall exactly how things went in duels between Reyan and Rufus, but at a guess it might have gone down 50/50 ish, +/- 20% either way.
Meleer Stats: 77% duel wins (826 total wins), 88% offensive wins (699 total offensive wins)
Poisoner Stats: 65% duel wins (588 total wins), 79% offensive wins (419 total offensive wins)
V13 - Decided to throw all good will aside. If I was going to cop hate no matter what I did, then screw it all. The age started and I made Doylin Moore, and together with a few other folks we made our own clan and declared war on everyone on day 1, then plonked ourselves in the NPC space right between SL, The Forsaken (again, different to current TF), and the Emerald Collective. Will skip the history lesson here, but let it be known that's a BAD idea when playing with players who are already on the verge of jadedsville. Anyways, same as previous age, the Forsaken of the age decided to get out of the blocks early with their tainters, not having learnt the lessons of the previous age, then once again started to crumble once the real duelling began, and the hatemail started coming in yet again. All good, expected. That age I seriously hardened my heart to the abuse and built the strongest MOFO of a dueller I could possibly build. And it worked. By the end of the age I was nearly bulletproof - Except for this one guy ... actually there was 2 guys ... nah make that 3 guys ... or maybe 4 ... plus the token tough guy, so maybe not quite so invincible. One was, again, Tim's poisoner. Second was a dodge concept build of Tim's - I must have wasted I don't know how many turns trying various strategies to beat that, for nought - well, not for nought, the discovery was made was that a non-damage build of any kind had a <1% chance of actually being able to apply any damage whatsoever. Damage builds could brush the dodge aside more or less. Thus the dodge change to tainters, and I think to critical miss on poison? Not sure, but that sounds right. The other was a fellow called Mandragorin Modi, a melee damager, who built such that success rate was somewhere around 60% ish from memory. Next came a huge damage stacked channeller with stun up the wazoo that made every battle a random outcome named Dana Ruger, and then of course KR sitting in Chachin has also never been a guaranteed win, but that's just a standard for every age. The top 3 duellers of the age by stats? 3 melees. Needless to say, those were likely also the biggest point scorers of the LB, and the biggest horde damagers of the age.
Stats: 89% duel wins (958 total wins), 87% offensive wins (834 total wins)
V14 - I forsook duelling this age and went NPC and horde basher, dirty at how completely inneffectual Doylin had been in the previous age LB, and generally a bit sore about how things had turned out politically. Turns out mostly everyone did. I don't even remember most of this age to be honest, it was so quiet.
V15 - I turned landowner IRL and cleared a bunch of bushland on some property I bought, spending half of my time living with no internet connection, so I think I reached lvl 27 or something this age, no info here.
Someone else will have to fill in the poisoner blanks.
V16 - here we are. I decided to again make a poison build, because some highly motivated folks had come on board. I realised things would be way out of balance as Shadow when the false start occurred, and swapped to Light to somewhat even things out and maybe give these guys a run for their money on the duelling stage - turns out they mostly decided to make plain boring melee builds, which I excpected would turn out to my advantage in duelling, but would make the LB interesting with KR's experienced damage crew, so I could afford to have a fun age stealing coin and generally being a nuisance to them. I started out fairly casually, duelling here and there, taking a bit of coin here bit of coin there, received all kinds of positive comments while I was doing so. My success rate at duelling was up around 90% or so early in the piece which was all kinds of strange, but considering there was no taint builds to dominate the early game I guess that was pretty cool. After a while the tone changed however, and the messages started getting more along the lines of 'Bug off, I just want to run turns while I'm sitting at the airport' or some such was one of the nicer ones I recall. And now, towards the thick end of the age Tinkers have started appearing, my duel rate is below 70% and I'm being told that the reason that my build can't be competed with is because of that single item, and as per every other effing age where I've duelled, the whining and the bs tears start coming in with all the excuses under the sun as to why I'm such an ass.
So you can see why maybe I get just a little bit shirty at the crap that keeps repeating itself every friggin age.
