SURPRISE!!!
It’s a Guest Host Countdown Post by KR. I know what you’re thinking. "What?! KR's doing the countdown? But he’s not The Creator… This can't be good. It's got to be the end of the world!!! Run away, run away!"
By all means. Run. >
OK, don’t. I’m just kidding. We actually want you all, and all the new people, to stick around. So, I listened to all the talk of having a walk-through to help people learn the game, and I decided to add something to the wiki. Some of you may remember me mentioning starting a post about what we needed to have as part of that. Some of you may have noticed that I didn’t do that and then wondered if I forgot, or was just lazy. Well, shame on you. I would never be lazy and not tell you about how lazy I am. And I didn’t forget. Instead, I had a chat with our dear Mr. The Creator. I figured, why just do a walk-through, when we could have a full blown in-game tutorial? That’s right boys and girls. It’s finally here.
How’s it going to work? The Green Man of course. Duh. How come we didn’t think of that sooner? I blame Kev. Yup, it’s all his fault.
What? You still don’t get it? OK fine. I’ll explain it.
In the first book, the team finds itself in need of answers. So they head out to find the Green Man. So, when a character is created in v16, which I’m officially submitting be named “The Age of KR” in honor of my awesomeness, characters will have a message from the Green Man offering to help them learn the game. The thing is, they’ll have to find him. Vets can ignore this message, just like we do the one from The Creator about the rules. A new player will hopefully open this message and click on the link inside that will take them to a special page where they can accept the tutorial quests. We haven’t hammered out all the details of the quests just yet, but here’s how we expect them to work.
As already mentioned, Tutorial quests would all come from the Green Man. (They will not show up in any specific city) They will offer no reward themselves, as pretty much all would end with an achievement so you get your 'reward' that way. (Tim's thinking about having an achievement for completing all the quests)
The description for each quest will be brief, but each will contain a link to a specific wiki page explaining in detail what to do. That way the info on how to do things is all in one spot (the wiki), but the quests serve as a guide on the ordering of when to do things and what to do next.
Certain tutorial quests will only become available after others have been completed. That way you’re not jumping to the grand finale before you’re able to def… I mean, so you don’t spoil the surprise at the end. Once they complete a quest, the new ones will become available. Tim’s not sure if they’ll have to accept another quest, or if he can just make them automatically get the next one somehow.
Here’s an example of how we think it’ll work:
Quest 1: Skills.
Spend your unused skill points. Link to wiki page explaining how to get all the associated achievements and properly get set up to defea... I mean, to get set up for the Finale.
Quest 2: Start a business. Link explaining how to get that achievement, and also give info on how to keep going down that most profitable chain of achievements.
Quest 3…
We haven’t worked all this out, but you get the idea, and we’d like you all to give us some input on what is important enough to deserve a quest.
Here’s the end game we have in mind. Quest whatever will finally send them into the wilderness, where they’ll defeat 10 trollocs, or some other easy opponent. This will Teach them how to level, give them some items and we can then show them how to repair gear, recover stamina, etc. Then, when they’re ready for a duel. They begin the Finale chain.
They’ll be directed to the ways, and will travel a couple steps away and will end up in a new location. The Eye of the FREAKING WORLD. Then, they’ll be given another quest.
Quest whatever: Green Man says: Come at me bro!
What’s a good tutorial without an easy win over a cool, sexy, and dare I say Awesome character? An easy win to be sure, but a win is a win. The Green Man himself will step into the ring and /allow/ you to beat him.
Well, now you’ve done it. You killed the Green Man. He’s dead, and the Eye of the World is gone. The character will end up in a random city, (or not, whatever) and they will then have all the skills necessary to compete in GoS.
The end.
Except, what’s this? The Green Man sent you a message congratulating you on completing the Tutorial? The Green Man is posting in TAR? Huh? What, you really thought a level 2 could kill the Green Man? Uh, nope. The Green Man will still be around to help people by answering their questions in TAR and PMs. Gone are the days of there only being two Legendary Characters roaming the world. There’s a new one on the loose. But you’ll never be able to find him again.
Who is this cool, sexy, brilliant and Awesome new Legend? We may never know.
This Guest Host Countdown Post has been brought to you by the letters “K” and “R,” and also by the number “7,” because that’s how many letters are in the word Awesome!
