You could have done all that as one post, you know Shields are amazing between levels 12 and 25 provided you use fire damage as well.

I know that Tim plans on changing many of the dynamics but I have a question for those of you that have seen the high enough levels in the newer version of the game with the current talismans and skills to answer.
Is there a great discrepency in the power base between the melee fighter and the ranged fighter ?
the reason I ask is that the melee fighter gets to use 2 primary hand weapons ...... so a potential of around 200 base damage between the 2 weapons , wheras the potential for the ranged fighter is around 160-170 ( I can't get to the google page while i am at work so my numbers are rough )
Also , I think the *all melee damage counts as ranged* thing was put in to give the ranged attackers back some of their power but how does that exactly give them anything ? on their main weapon if they try and take a melee weapon say a HMB , ranged prefixes won't stack with it so they would have to I'm guessing use melee talismans on it which will then change it to ranged when the damage is dealt ..... but then something like the talisman of prosperity wouldn't work. for the offhand knife i'm not positive about whether a ranged talisman will work either.
so i guess what i am asking is what is everyone's experience with this at say lvls 50+ ?
I must admit that I find myself quite confused as to which talismans everyone is stating are the best I would never choose to use myself. Like the one's that add some critical or agility , but don't add any extra damg to the weapon ..........
I'll run some numbers myself when i get some time.
Also , how does the critical work exactly ? If I am attacking with +50% ranged damg , does a critical count as an attack of 150 * 2 = 300 % damage ?
I've also heard the talisman of Birgette talked up a lot and am curious about that ..... and also does critical % max out at 70% like agility ? (Atleast it used to ) or if you get 100% critical will you always get the critical hit ?
I also don't understand why this would be preferable to 2 of prosperity talismans where a person may have +100% ranged as well , but in addition have extreme health gain and still a decent chance at getting the critical hit as well ......

They are both good but if your skills are dmg you want Birgette and if your skills are gain health then you want prosperity slayers and lucky go with either

was asked to post my skills ......
Dove Takes Flight Fast Long distance attack
+20% ranged dmg +5% critical +12% agility
25% Lizard in the Thornbush Critical shot with some life gain
+35% ranged dmg 10% health gain +10% critical
« switch 50% switch » Stones Falling From a Cliff Long distance attack with healing abilities
+35% ranged dmg +10% melee def +10% ranged def 25% health gain
As far as what I have noticiced from this skill selection so far ..... well the 25% health gain while sounding very cool doesn't seem to compare at all to the extra 10% ranged damage , 10% critical , and 12% agility I could have had with the other choice.
Not sure if it is a situation where the health gain becomes better later on but I'm not completely convinced that is the case. If 1 hit kills are still affluent into the higher levels then even when I get a chance health gain wouldn't be enough. I guess the only situation it would work in is if I can gain more health in a shot than the other person can take off with a critical hit. And even then if they get a second hit , I lose.
I haven't given up on the health gain at higher levels though .... I do have a few ideas.

Tough question. Generally, the only people I've seen able to survive (and do well) as rangers at high levels are Jay, Mat Cauthon, and Jason Anola (outside of Channelers, of course). Granted, I've never had a ranged character (with the new system) over level 55, so my opinion isn't as valuable as some other people's. I have no idea how Critical works - personally, I go with Slayers of Prosperity whenever I can. It's more reliable than Critical. I think melee fighters are automatically higher-powered for various different reasons (mostly because of the complete failure of spears as a weapon), but their skills (especially Boar) tend to be far better powered than rangers. This would not matter so much if it were possible to obtain good, adaptable (to your class) armor, but because of this lack, it is virtually impossible for a ranger to survive defensive battles... Hope I helped.

Most of my ranged Strategy came from micky mouse he was one of the best rangers ever. From level 50 to100 what you use is lucky of Prosperity and then lucky of hunters shadow wildmen on your armor. crushing force is the key for melee and ranged...

Or what Micky used to use was Mastersmithed Myrddraal Armor of wildmen and then lucky Ruby dagger of Prosperity and lucky Warriors bow of Prosperity..
