First, a little more clarity about the Shipping Office changes I mentioned a few days back. Here's the new prices for the ships:
'Work Boat' => 50s
'River Boat' => 1g
'Soarer' => 2g
'Darter' => 3g
'Raker' => 4g
'Seanchan' => 5g
Still a steeper cost of upgrade when you look at other businesses, but I think the ship upgrades are much more productive than others if you do the math. When you purchase a new ship, half the price of the ship you buy is added to the business value and half the value of the ship you are replacing is taken away. That way you can't just keep upgrading and downgrading to up your business value.
Another change I'm making to shipping that I forgot to mention is that there's a tweak to the supply/demand pricing. The prices of a good in a city are based affected by the number of that good already in your destination city. Before, the price would drop 1% per good, up to 50%. Well, later in the game having 50 of a good in various cities is quite common. Heck, a player could do that with 5 of their ships carrying the same good. Kinda ruins the supply/demand aspect when all the markets are flooded with goods. So I'm tweaking it so now it drops 0.2% per good, or 1% for every 5 goods. That should help make things more interesting in your choices for what to ship where.
The other thing I wanted to talk about is the idea of selling businesses. All players are limited to only 6 of a certain kind of businesses. Later in the game, you may decide you'd rather have one of your businesses (such as an Office) in a different city, but you've already hit your max. Well, now you'll be able to sell your existing businesses from the "My Business" tab of the Professions page. Businesses will be sold for 1/2 of their value. Once a business is sold, it's gone. No going back. No credit for any unfinished progress either, so don't take the decision lightly. But the option is there if you want to use it.
However, once the first Seal breaks business are locked for the rest of the age. This is to prevent players from hastily dumping all their businesses in cities that are about to be destroyed for coin. So you still have to do SOME planning ahead.
