V11 is now over. Time to look towards V12!
We're coming off of two versions of major changes. In V10 we added the battle between the Light and the Shadow with character alignment, Order and Chaos, Bubbles of Evil, the Seals, and the Last Battle itself. In V11 we broke the world, expanding the map to be 33% bigger, added new classes and nationalities, and added clan alignment which took the Light vs Shadow fight to the next level. None of that even mentions all the awesome graphics that Ed added. What will I add in V12 to match these epic version?!
Easy. I won't.
For those of you that have been around a while, you'll remember I had some pretty big changes in V8 and V9 too. But V10 didn't directly follow. I needed to do V9.5, which made a lot of tweaks to existing features or clear up features that I had kept kicking down the road. It was either that or have V10 be HUGE, which would have led to an even longer wait between versions. V12 will be a lot like V9.5: Lots of tweaks to existing features to smooth out a lot of the wrinkles that have been exposed the last two versions! Shore up the base before expanding! Patch up the hull before venturing into new oceans! Other cliche phrases about fixing stuff, then doing other stuff!
So for the V12 Countdown, instead of a lot of big posts describing these new, complicated mechanics or listing of stats for new classes/items/nationalities/etc, expect short posts with different ways things that already exist in the game will be changing. Hopefully better. And bugs will be squashed. A couple of them are things that have survived way too long...
Don't get me wrong! There will still be some larger changes. I have some interesting ideas of ways to mix up how hordes are fought and how the Last Battle will work that I hope you guys will be excited about, as well as retooling some features that have been around for ages. But it won't be at the level of the last few ages.
So the question you all have right now: When?
After this age, I need a break to get my mind shifted gears. Already done some V12 work and have some pretty firm plans, but still need to iron stuff out and still some room for new ideas. But I do work better with a deadline so...
V12 Countdown will start 1 week from today: Monday March 3rd.
As usual there will be one post on the forum per weekday talking about new things coming in V12. That will run for a couple weeks and then hopefully lead into the opening of the V12 test site sometime in mid to late March. Donors as usual will get access 1 week before non-donors, but after that all are welcome to come and play around until V12 is finished. Depending on how that goes, we'll work out when the official V12 launch will be. If I had to throw out a time frame right now I'd say late April/early May, but we all know how well I am at hitting deadlines (for those that don't know I'm always overly optimistic).
So there you go. Enjoy the week of GoS free life before I dive into the V12 countdown and beyond! Go Team!
