is there any chance we could have gos optimized for mobile devices like phones or tablets in addition to the full desk/laptop version we use now? i dont know the complexities of 'mobilizing' websites but it would be a pretty cool feature to have. playing the game on my droid is impossible, and playing on a few tablets ive tried is extremely hard and resizing and junk is very tedious.

I hear ya. Logging in from my new droid is way better than my old phone, but still kinda a hassle. Making more mobile compatable would essentially boil down to checking the browser dimensions and having an alternate layout. Probably removing/replacing some images in order to cut down on load times. Short answer: I'd love to do it, and plan on getting to that point eventually, but it will take a bit of time. Long answer: I'd love someday for GoS to be that customizable that players could select a theme or layout. It could be done easily by switching out style sheets... if the code was written to make proper use of them. Problem is that while some styles are used, it's mainly for text fonts and links, with some minimal layout stuff. Most of the sizes of tables and things are hard coded. Cleaning up the code and making it more flexible is on my list of things to do, but the problem is that it's something that will take quite a bit of time and even when I'm done you guys won't notice anything different (if I do it right). It will make changes like this easier in the future, but there's a lot of mindless work to get to that point. As I've been making changes the last few versions, I've been working on cleaning up browser warnings on pages. Some pages were worse than others (I think the inventory page had close to 1000 warnings, depending on how many items you had), but some aren't too bad. Most of them were things that didn't effect things on most browsers, but some browsers are more strict than others. That's why there are sometimes display issues on Chrome or Opera: they follow HTML standards more closely than Firefox and IE. Once I get most of those warning messages cleaned up, I'll start going through and cleaning up the layout stuff to be more flexible. Once that's done, making a different style sheet to compatable with smaller (and higher) resolution screens will be the first thing I do. Unfortunately, I wouldn't look for them anytime soon. Think v11 timeframe.

Making a completely new theme for GoS is extremely difficult and time consuming Multiple themes depresses me just thinking about it lol. Perhaps for V10 I could make a new theme though. We'll see. Theres a lot of images involved in that. Also, I have a Palm Pre cellphone and for the most part it works fine for me. I have to zoom in a lot, but it works fine for the most part. Issues I see: 1. Theres no way to make everything visible at once on a cellphone. Most of the images would be too small to see. Perhaps we could add a scrollbar to make moving around easier? 2. Theres an issue with battles on my cellphone. I have to refresh after every battle to make the next battle work properly. Not sure if its my settings or something server side.

how about a cellphone theme that shows only critical data with no graphics? bare to the point and efficient? but also that auto resizes to fit the phone (now im dreaming =P) heh we could even make an app that allows us to go strait to the game vs going through the web browser

Honestly on my Droid, I find it quite easy to access GoS, and even play roughly half the time from my phone. The one issue, however is that the scroll bars on all pages don't work. Other than that I find the current version to be perfectly compatible.
