This is an issue I've been thinking about for a long time. Weaves are quite different from the other weapon types and they need to be treated differently. The ability to use weaves is a privelage that only some classes are granted, but right now it's not so much a privelage due to the restriction against using talismen on weaves. I stick by that restriction, but that left the question of how to make weaves more useful.
I started thinking about what makes channeling different from using a physical weapon. When channeling, the effect of the weave itself depends greatly on the one weaving it. A fireball woven by one channeler could be very different depending on their strenght, knowledge of the weave, and their skill with the Powers used in the weave. True, the usefulness of a sword also varies with who is holding it, but in my opinion not as much as weave.
That's what led me to the changes for weaves: Weaves will no longer give a static effect, but will vary based on the channelers level and gender. As in the books, women will do better with Air and Water weaves, while men will do better with Fire and Earth weaves. Instead of a set number of points, weaves will now use a set percentage of the players points. As you level up, the weaves will get stronger.
To keep weaves more varied, certain weaves will boost certain stats. How much will also depend on the user's level. For example a level 1 player using earthquake might get +1 stun, while a level 40 player using earthquake migth get +3 stun (exact numbers still in work, but you get the idea).
The tricky thing with this change is the pricing of the weaves. I've decided that even though the amount of damage done by the weave varies, the price of the weaves will be constant. Too many loopholes otherwise (ie, could by a weave with a low level person, trade it to a high level person, and sell it for a profit). Prices should stay about the same as current levels, though there will be some small changes to keep costs fair to both male and female channelers.
The table below will give you an idea of what to expect. It lists the weave name, the percentage of points used by male channelers, the percentage of points costs used by female channelers, percentage of points cost used by male channelers, and the stat(s) that the weave will add. Note that Powersurge effects males and females equally and does not have any stats boost. It's just pure raw power. Also note that it maxes out at using 65% of your points, just shy of the 2/3rds per single item limit. This means that no matter what your equipment setup is, leveling up won't push you past that limit.
